What if I told you the secret to gorgeous hair isn't just in the products you use, but in your whole lifestyle? So, today I thought we'd unlock the secrets to holistic hair care hacks, and I'm going to share the surprisingly simple solutions that not only transformed my hair, but also taught me a valuable lesson about holistic self-care, and we'll discuss natural, safe, and effective ways to care for your luscious locks without compromising your health.

Welcome to the Sparkling Life Coach Podcast.

Hey, there's Sparkling One. If you are on an exploration to healthier, stronger hair without toxins, you are in the right place. Today's episode is all about holistic hair care, especially for hair loss, because that can feel frustrating and even a little emotional. It's something so many of us deal with, but don't talk about enough.

Hair loss can have so many different causes, whether it's from hormonal imbalances, stress, nutrient deficiencies, postpartum, the natural aging process, or even the products we've been using for years without realizing how much damage they're doing. A lot of conventional hair loss treatments focus only on the symptoms like thinning hair or breakage without addressing what's really going on beneath the surface. But holistic hair care looks at the whole picture, your scalp health, your daily routine, and even what's happening inside your body.

The goal isn't just to grow hair, it's to create the best environment for your hair to thrive naturally. And the good news is. You can support your hair's health naturally without harsh chemicals or expensive treatments. The Creator has given us everything we need in nature to support that process. So, we're gonna talk all about holistic hair care that delivers salon-worthy results, without the toxins. We'll explore some incredible hair products, natural do-it-yourself recipes and simple hacks that will transform your hair routine from toxic to totally nourishing. So, let's discuss how to nurture our hair from the inside out. You know, for years I treated my hair like something separate from my body. I tried every shampoo, conditioner, and treatment, hoping for a miracle. But it wasn't until I embraced a holistic approach that I truly saw a change. Now, when I say holistic, I mean we're looking at hair care that nourishes your hair and scalp, is kind to the environment, and reduces the number of chemicals we expose ourselves to.

It means recognizing that it's about looking beyond the surface. Your hair's health is a reflection of your overall wellbeing. It's about nourishing your hair from the inside out and choosing products that are natural, safe, and effective. But let's be real. Finding hair care products that actually work and are free from harmful chemicals can feel like an impossible mission, right? We want shiny, strong hair, but we also want products that align with our holistic lifestyle. And here's the thing, most conventional shampoos and conditioners are packed with sulfates, silicones, parabens, synthetic fragrances, dyes, phthalates, phenoxyethanol, and all kinds of nasties.

These ingredients might make your hair look good temporarily, but they can lead to buildup, scalp irritation, and even long-term damage. At this point, you might be asking what's the big deal? Well, some potential dangers may include skin irritation, allergic reactions, and endocrine disruption, which are hormonal imbalances. They have potential cancer concerns, respiratory issues, and environmental damage. For example, here are some specific concerns about each ingredient. Let's start with sulfates, like sodium laurel sulfate.

This can be harsh on the skin, stripping away natural oils, causing irritation and dryness, particularly for people with sensitive skin. How about silicones? Silicones, while not inherently toxic, can build up on the hair and the scalp, leading to a heavy feeling and potentially hindering hair growth over time.

Additionally, non-biodegradable silicones can contribute to environmental pollution. How about parabens? Parabens have been linked to potential hormonal disruption due to their estrogen mimicking properties. This raises concerns about potential cancer risk, particularly breast cancer.

And if you listened to my last episode, Episode 28, where we discussed hormones, you know how detrimental that can be for women's current and future health. How about synthetic fragrances? These can trigger allergic reactions, respiratory issues like asthma, headaches, and may contain chemicals linked to endocrine disruption.

How about dyes? Dyes can cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, and potential sensitivities, especially for people with sensitive skin. And then there's phthalates. These are known endocrine disruptors that may interfere with hormone function, potentially impacting reproductive health and development. And how about phenoxyethanol? While considered a relatively safe preservative, some concerns do exist regarding potential skin irritation and allergic reactions, especially when used in high concentrations. But don't worry, I've got some amazing solutions that will help you ditch the toxins without sacrificing product performance.

One of my favorite ways to promote hair health and growth is by using scalp stimulating essential oils. These essential oils help increase blood circulation, balance oil production, and create the perfect environment for stronger, fuller hair. So let me tell you about the hair care line I use. I am a big fan of dōTERRA’s natural hair care line because they align perfectly with the holistic philosophy. These products are packed with clean, nourishing ingredients like quinoa protein, shea butter, coconut oil, fermented rice, water, jojoba oil, aloe vera leaf juice, and of course their signature. CPTG Certified Pure Tested Grade essential oils.

So let me give you a quick rundown of their fabulous trio, starting with the protecting shampoo. It's gentle enough for daily use and safe for color treated hair. This shampoo removes buildup, hard water, minerals, and pollutants, leaving your hair shiny and refreshed. It's infused with quinoa protein for strength and Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, and Spearmint essential oils for that invigorating scalp tingle.

Then there's the daily conditioner, this lightweight formula, hydrates, smooths, and detangles without any heavy buildup. Your hair stays soft, silky, and frizz free. Plus, the same blend of minty essential oils makes your scalp feel oh, so fresh. And then there's the leave-in conditioner. This is perfect for protecting your hair from heat styling and daily wear and tear.

This no-rinse formula, detangles, softens and locks in moisture. With Wild Orange, Lime, Blue Tanzi, and Magnolia essential oils, it leaves your hair smelling absolutely divine. And the best part, these products work. No compromises, no toxins. Just healthy, gorgeous hair. I also love using their Root to Tip Serum to help promote smooth, shiny hair and a healthy scalp without weighing the hair down, resulting in fewer visible split ends.

It contains Certified, Pure Tested Grade essential oils of Lavender, Peppermint, Marjoram, Cedarwood, Lavandin, Rosemary, Niaouli, and Eucalyptus, which are known for their ability to rejuvenate the scalp while supporting the appearance of healthy hair. This is a powerful but lightweight serum that provides extended moisture without leaving an oily residue. And if you're looking for something eco-friendly and something you can easily take with you when you travel without concern at the TSA line, check out dōTERRA’s Shampoo and Conditioner Strengthening Bars. These solid bars are amazing for the planet and your hair.

They're concentrated so they last longer and they save nearly 13.6 fluid ounces of water per bar. Plus, there's no plastic waste. Both bars are enriched with fermented rice water. This is a time-tested ingredient known to strengthen, smooth and nourish hair, and with hydrating ingredients like cocoa seed butter, jojoba oil, shea butter, and aloe vera leaf juice. Your hair will feel soft and look vibrant.

The essential oils in these bars are pure aromatherapy bliss with Bergamot Mint, Cedarwood, Patchouli, Rose, and Japanese Mint essential oils. Trust me, your shower is gonna smell like a spa. Now for my DIY lovers out there, let's talk about some simple natural hair care recipes. You can whip up at home using essential oils. These are fun, affordable, and give your hair an extra holistic boost. So, check out the link in the show notes for a free eBook. That includes recipes for a leave-in spray, which is particularly good if you've been struggling with hair loss.

There's also a recipe for a nourishing hair wax, a simple frizz taming spray, and an herbal hairspray. So, make sure to download that free eBook. Now for some pro tips for transitioning to natural hair care. If you are switching to natural hair care products, your hair might need a little time to adjust, especially if you've been using products with sulfates and silicones for years. So here are a few tips to make the transition smoother. I always recommend giving yourself at least five washes to shed any buildup from synthetic ingredients, and let your hair detox and rebalance. With the dōTERRA Protecting Shampoo, Daily Conditioner, and Leave-In Conditioner, you're not just washing your hair, you're nourishing your scalp and strands with every single wash. Also, clarify when needed. If you notice extra buildup during the transition, try an occasional apple cider vinegar rinse to clarify your scalp. And also hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Natural hair care often focuses on hydration, so make sure you're conditioning properly and using leave-in products to lock in moisture. But most important, beyond hair is nourishing from within. Right? Remember, true hair health comes from within what you put inside your body, what you're feeding it is just as important as what you put on your hair. One of the biggest hidden causes of hair loss is nutrient deficiencies. If you're not getting enough nutrients from your diet, your hair might suffer.

So, let's explore some internal wellness hacks that can make a big difference for healthy hair, starting with our nutrition. Make sure you're eating a balanced diet, rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, especially iron, zinc, biotin, and B vitamins. But of course, with the state of our food supply, especially here in the United States, we are not getting enough from our diet alone.

So, it's important to consider incorporating a supplement to fill in the gaps in our diet. That's why I always recommend pairing your natural hair care routine with whole food supplements like dōTERRA’s, VMG Plus Whole Food Nutrient Complex. It's a powerhouse multivitamin packed with over 90 nutrients, including whole food, vitamins, minerals, and green super foods that help fill the gaps in our diet and support healthy hair, skin, and nails from the inside out. Plus, the best part, it's totally vegan made with clean ingredients. And infused with CPTG essential oils for better absorption.

This formula supports energy, immune health, digestion, hormone balance, and yes, strong shiny hair. It's a yummy, easy addition to your daily routine. Just mix one sachet with water and enjoy all the benefits. In addition, you also wanna make sure that you're incorporating Omega 3s.

These essential fatty acids are crucial for overall health, including hair health. Consider taking the EO Mega+ supplement to support healthy hair. Gut health is also important. A healthy gut is essential for nutrient absorption, and that's why I use dōTERRA’s PB Restore probiotic because it can help support a healthy gut microbiome, which is gonna benefit your overall health and indirectly your hair too. And then let's make sure we're incorporating hydration, as I already mentioned. Drink plenty of water because hydration actually begins on the inside, and we know 75% of the population is dehydrated. So, I'm gonna encourage you to supplement with a good Electrolyte.

Check out the link in the show notes for my favorite electrolyte supplement called Recharge. I also take a Biotin supplement to help support my hair loss due to menopause. Biotin plays an important role in keeping your hair healthy by increasing the rate of follicle growth, along with keratin production, which impacts hair, skin, and nails.

You can check the show notes for a link to the biotin supplement I take, but please know that this supplement should be taken as directed. Taking too much Biotin could actually have the opposite effect of making your hair thin. In addition, biotin can also be found in many foods such as almonds, walnuts, and peanuts, egg yolks, avocados, sweet potatoes, broccoli, and spinach, just to name a few. And last but certainly not least, let's talk about something we often overlook when it comes to hair loss, Stress.

We need to focus on stress management. Stress is one of the biggest culprits behind thinning hair, especially in women. When we're constantly in fight or flight mode, our body starts prioritizing essential functions. And guess what?

Hair growth isn't one of them, so stress can wreak havoc on our hair. That's why managing stress is such a key part of any holistic hair care routine. Here's a few simple practices I swear by: Scalp Massages with Lavender or Copaiba oil before bed. 10 minutes of deep breathing or meditation each day. And for additional support, consider taking dōTERRA’s Adaptiv Calming Blend system to help reduce feelings of stress and for natural emotional support.

If you'd like to learn more about that system, you can check out Episode 10, "Navigating Life's Storms", where we discuss the adaptive system in detail. When you calm your nervous system, your body shifts into healing mode, and that's when your hair growth really starts to happen.

All right, that wraps up today's episode on Holistic Hair Care Hacks. I hope you're feeling inspired and empowered to embrace a more holistic approach to hair care and make some clean swaps in your hair care routine, and maybe even try one of the Do-It-Yourself recipes I've included in the eBook. I challenge you this week to incorporate just one new holistic care hack into your routine, whether it's adding essential oils to your shampoo, using one of the Do-It-Yourself recipes in the eBook, or simply taking a few moments to de-stress, every little bit counts. By giving your scalp, the care it needs, nourishing your body from within and swapping out harsh chemicals for clean, natural products, you're creating the perfect environment for your hair to thrive. Trust the process, your hair will thank you.
