Like we're about to embark on a self-care journey to prepare us for whatever adventure life throws our way? Today's topic is actually a continuation of our Wellness Lifestyle series and the natural solutions we can use to help us. Understanding Informed Self-Care?
So now, when I say informed self-care, what comes to your mind? What is informed self-care? For some, self-care might look like a bubble bath with lavender, while others think of getting enough sleep or managing stress levels. And guess what? You're all right. But here's where being informed comes in. It's about knowing your options and having the right tools on hand to tackle life's little bumps and learning how to address those challenges before they become big problems. It's like having a toolbox filled with nature's finest remedies, ready to support you in feeling your best physically and emotionally. That's the power of holistic, informed self-care. So, we're not just talking about bubble baths and face masks here, though those are awesome too. But we're going deeper to explore how we can partner with nature to create lasting well-being.
Because when adventure calls, you need to be ready for anything. And if you have the right tools with you, you can live intentionally.
My Wellness Journey
Now, before we jump in, let me share a little bit about my own wellness journey. For years, I felt like I was running on a hamster wheel, constantly stressed and struggling to keep up. I was relying on quick fixes that only masked the symptoms, never truly addressing the root cause. Until it got really bad and I was diagnosed with severe autoimmune failure and was given a six-month deadline. Literally.
Then one day I stumbled upon the wonderful world of essential oils and the power of nutrition and natural remedies and it completely changed my life. I started incorporating these incredible tools into my daily routine and I noticed a profound shift in my energy, my mood, and my overall well-being. I finally felt empowered to take control of my health and that's why I'm so passionate about sharing with you what's worked for me in the hopes that you feel empowered and realize that there are many natural solutions that can help you too.
Now, I'm assuming, if you're listening or watching this podcast, you're here because you want safe, effective, and affordable natural solutions, right?
The Gap in Modern Healthcare
Cause, let's be real, the traditional healthcare system is often primarily on symptom management. Treating symptoms after they arise. Now, don't get me wrong, modern medicine is amazing. Our healthcare system is great for emergencies. If you break your arm, you're going to want that ambulance, right? Or if you need surgery, you're going to be glad you have access to it.
But when it comes to daily wellness, there's often a gap. What happens when you're dealing with something like chronic stress or low energy? The modern system isn't always designed to help with these issues beyond the crisis point, right? It's like waiting for the fire alarm to go off before addressing the smoke.
It's like an ambulance mentality where you only react to problems when they arise. We've become so accustomed to this reactive approach that we forget we have the power to be proactive. That's why I like to remind my clients that it's better to prepare and prevent than repair and repent. Did you know that the average insured American could spend over $320, 000 thousand dollars on healthcare costs in their lifetime?
And if you don't have employer-sponsored insurance, that number skyrockets to $700, 000. Now, again, I'm not saying modern medicine doesn't have its place. It absolutely does. Hey, if I break my leg, please someone make sure I get to the emergency room. But what I am saying is that often, if it's not an emergency or something urgent, the current healthcare system leaves it up to us to figure out the rest.
We can't rely solely on modern medicine to support our long-term wellness and keep us healthy and thriving. So it's time to shift our mindset from fixing what's broken to building a strong foundation for well-being.
The Power of Natural Solutions
And this is where natural solutions come into play. Here, the focus is on meeting the body's needs before a crisis hits. It focuses on addressing the body's needs to prevent issues from occurring in the first place. It's all about proactive, natural ways of addressing root health concerns.
Temporary or superficial solutions? Yeah, those aren't enough. It's about cultivating intentional daily habits aimed at healthy living that keep you healthy and thriving, not just symptom-free. And we have access to natural tools we can rely on every day to feel our best. Think of these natural tools like building blocks, forming a foundation that supports our health from the inside out. Nature provides us with incredible tools to support our body's innate healing abilities. Think about it. Our Creator created plants that have been thriving for millions of years, adapting and changing to overcome challenges. They were created with sophisticated defense mechanisms. And those same compounds that protect the plant can benefit us too, whether it's managing stress, boosting our immune system, or even helping you sleep better. Instead of using synthetic agents that often come with unwanted side effects, we can turn to nature's pharmacy for safe and effective alternatives. We're talking about nutrition, essential oils, herbs, and other natural remedies that have been used for centuries to support health and well-being. And that's what this entire wellness series has been about.
Learning how foundational health principles build atop each other like a pyramid or stacking blocks. If you remove the foundation, it's all going to topple.
Nature’s Potent Remedies
Now let's quickly talk about what for me are the stars of the show, Essential Oils. So how do these little bottles of plant magic work? Well, it's all about potency and purity. Essential oils are made by distilling plants, think the bark, the leaves, the flowers, down to their most concentrated form. Think of them as the lifeblood of the plant, carrying the plant's unique properties and benefits.
If you ever tried a single drop of Certified Pure Tested Grade Peppermint Essential Oil, then you know it can create a powerful invigorating aroma. That's because it takes a lot of plant material to create a small bottle of essential oil. For instance, a 15 ml bottle of Peppermint essential oil requires approximately 3 pounds of peppermint leaves.
Imagine that! That's concentration Sparkling One. I want you to make sure you're getting the real deal, the pure essence of the plant, so you can experience the full benefits. Practical Uses of Essential Oils
So, just to share a quick personal story about how I use essential oils for informed self-care. Not too long ago, I was at a conference and when we took a break, I got a coffee and forgot to tell the barista to substitute the milk for a plant-based version. Oh, my goodness. For anyone who has a lactose intolerance, I know you are feeling my pain. I felt like I was being stabbed in the gut. Fortunately, I had dōTERRA’s DigestZen Digestive Blend in my purse and just one drop around my belly button and on my solar plexus, and within minutes the discomfort was gone. It's experiences like that which remind me why I trust these natural solutions. Here's another example that we all experience, stress. Exploring Natural Remedy Resources for Self-Care
Now if you're looking for some additional solutions, let's clean out your bathroom cabinet and replace most of the synthetic remedies with some natural solutions.
Let's start with Stress Relief. I already mentioned Lavender essential oil, the Adaptive Calming Blend, and the Serenity Restful Blend. Both Adaptive and Serenity include supplements, but in addition, another essential oil I like is Roman Chamomile and also Bergamot essential oil as they're known for their calming and relaxing properties.
If you're looking for Immune Support, I love using all things On Guard Protective Blend. doTERRA has a whole line of On Guard products including hand soap, toothpaste, and even cleaning and laundry supplies. Some additional essential oils for immune support I like to keep on hand are Oregano, Frankincense, and Peppermint.
doTERRA for Digestive Health or anything tummy-related. I already mentioned the DigestZen Digestive Blend, but you can also use Ginger, Peppermint, or Fennel essential oilsto aid in digestion and relieve stomach discomfort, as well as the PB Restore Probiotic and the TerraZyme Enzyme Supplement, which helps your body digest the food you eat.
Now, if you're looking for Pain Relief, my favorite is a Deep Blue line, which includes not only an essential oil, but an amazing lotion called Deep Blue Rub.
